If you’ve just signed up for a Flutter subscription, you might be wondering how to apply it to maximise your eyelash growth results. Well, we’re here for you!

In this step-by-step guide, we’ll give you all the basics, plus some pro tips for the extra eager. Let’s do this.

The basics of applying bimatoprost for eyelash growth

The tl;dr? Apply a thin line of bimatoprost along your upper lash line, once nightly to a clean face.

Unlike over-the-counter eyelash serums, bimatoprost has been rigorously studied for safety and efficacy—so it’s important to follow these instructions if you want the best results possible. Here’s a full rundown for those A+ students out there.

  1. Wash and dry your face as usual.
  2. Take a new brush from the packet (you’ll receive more than enough in each Flutter delivery) and drop one droplet of bimatoprost directly from the bottle onto the brush. Alternatively, you can drop the solution onto a clean, non-absorbent surface and wet the brush there (you can think of it like a painter’s palette).
  3. Brush the liquid along your upper lash line, like you’re applying eyeliner, doing your best to keep the eye closed.
  4. Drop another droplet (repetitive much?) onto the brush, this time gliding it onto your other upper lash line.
  5. Use a tissue, cotton pad, or cotton bud to dab any excess liquid from the corners of your eyes.
  6. If you have any excess formula, some people like to use it on their eyebrows. But do bear in mind that bimatoprost can lead to hair darkening, which is generally a good thing but might not be desirable if you have lighter eyebrows.
  7. Go to sleep, let the bimatoprost do its thing, and repeat tomorrow!

Why do I need to use a new brush every day?

We recommend using a new brush each day to reduce the risk of contamination to the bottle (looking at you, mascara 👀). We’re working hard to make our supply chain more sustainable, so stay tuned for updates about our efforts to reduce brush waste in the future.

Can I speed up my eyelash growth by applying it more often?

Sadly no! Good things come to those who wait ;)

The mechanism by which bimatoprost works is by promoting the natural cycle of eyelash growth (but not speeding it up), so there’s not much you can do about speed except relax in the knowledge that, once you achieve your desired eyelash length, you’ll be able to continue enjoying it for as long as you like.

In addition, multiple daily applications of bimatoprost have not been evaluated for safety, so we don’t recommend using it more than once (which has been studied extensively!)

Do I really have to use bimatoprost every day?

To achieve the best results, we recommend using bimatoprost daily as often as possible. Once you’ve achieved your desired lash length, some people prefer to step down to every other day for maintenance—it’s really a personal preference, so you’ll need to play around with what works for you. If you want to be sure to maintain the best results, our official advice is to continue daily application.

What happens if I forget to apply my bimatoprost one day?

Bimatoprost is designed for daily application, but there’s no need to fret if you miss a day—and no need to overdo it the following day to compensate. Simply wait until the following evening and apply one drop per eyelid, as you normally would!

How can I minimise the chances of side effects from bimatoprost?

Really simply, the best thing you can do to avoid side effects is to follow the above instructions carefully—particularly the bits about only applying to your upper eyelid, keeping your eye closed whilst brushing it on, and dabbing away excess fluid after you finish.
